Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Senate voted to pass Senator Lummis’ legislation undoing the Biden administration’s Buffalo Field Office Resource Management Plan Amendment (RMPA), which aimed to completely end future coal mining in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin.
“The passage of this legislation through both the Senate and the House is great news for Wyoming and our workers in the Powder River Basin,” said Senator Cynthia Lummis. “Wyoming energy has powered this country for decades and we won’t allow far-left Biden administration bureaucrats to unilaterally destroy entire industries and communities just because they wanted to please their environmental donor base. I’m glad that we are sending this bill to President Trump so that he can sign it and help secure America’s energy future.”
“Today, the Senate voted to support Wyoming’s energy workers and coal communities. We reversed another one of the many bad Joe Biden runaway regulations,” said Senator John Barrasso. “This outrageous rule cut off access to one of our strongest resources – Wyoming coal. I’m proud of our delegation for fighting until we reversed this job-killing rule for good. Together with the Trump administration we’re unleashing Wyoming energy and getting America back on track.”
“Thanks to Senators Lummis and Barrasso’s strong leadership in the Senate, H.J. Res. 130 is headed to the President’s desk, and we are one step closer to repealing the Biden administration’s disastrous Buffalo RMPA,” said Congresswoman Harriet Hageman. “Wyoming coal powers this country, and once this misguided, ideologically driven policy is overturned, we can better meet our nation’s growing energy demands.”
Background:
- The Biden BLM twisted the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA) to target coal operations in the Powder River Basin – including the Buffalo RMP in Wyoming – in a way that flies in the face of what the law was meant to do.
- They cut out local input and implemented artificial restrictions on coal production under the cover of conservation.
- This legislation now goes to President Trump’s desk where he will sign it, officially terminating the Biden administration’s Buffalo RMPA.
- Senator Lummis introduced and led this successful effort in the U.S. Senate, alongside Senator Barrasso. Representative Hageman led the effort in the U.S. House.
