Lummis Responds to Record Inflation

December 10, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) released the following statement regarding the recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) summary from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“President Biden is breaking all the wrong records. Under his watch, inflation has increased over a 12-month period by more than it has since 1982. It did not have to be like this, but the Biden administration and Democrats have poured their efforts into overspending on the one hand, while holding down the labor market on the other. From an unnecessary stimulus at the start of the year to extra unemployment checks and vaccine mandates, this administration is doing the very opposite of what we should be doing to bring the economy back in a responsible manner. Instead, soaring gas prices and empty shelves are the result. The people of Wyoming deserve better.”

The Consumer Price Index measures the change in prices over time for a selection of consumer goods and services, such as food and energy. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its November report showing that inflation accelerated at the fastest pace since 1982. Over the last year, prices have increased 6.8 percent.
