Lummis Works to Advance Western Caucus Infrastructure Priorities in Surface Transportation Reauthorization

October 29, 2025

Washington, D.C.—Senate Western Caucus Chair Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) sent a letter to Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation Chair Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ranking Member Maria Cantwell (D-WA), outlining the Caucus’ top transportation priorities as the Committee begins work on the next Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill. This legislation provides the framework for maintaining and strengthening the nation’s infrastructure and transportation networks. The current authorization is set to expire on September 30, 2026.

Chair Lummis wrote, “The region’s vast landscapes and rugged terrain require transportation infrastructure solutions that prioritize rural connectivity, maintain and improve critical highways and roadways, and support multimodal networks capable of withstanding our unique challenges. We respectfully request that the reauthorization includes improved funding mechanisms that accurately reflect the needs of our rural communities.”
